A local councillor is calling for the re-establishment of the social car scheme in South Roscommon.
Councillor Tony Ward was involved in the initial set up of the service over ten years ago with the Roscommon Leader partnership, however it ceased due to a lack of funding.
The car scheme provided transport for older people to get to and from medical appointments and the Independent representative says he was disappointed when the scheme finished.
A meeting of Roscommon County Council heard this week that the local link service is working on this matter across Roscommon and Councillor Ward says he hopes there will be a positive outcome from this work.
The south Roscommon native believes there's a need for a community car in rural areas and he's calling for funding to be allocated for its revival.
'It should never have been let go, for a very small amount of money, but the scheme went, and in rural Ireland, and especially in rural County Roscommon, for older people , there's no bus service, there's nothing like that in place.
The people going for medical appointments or check-up knew the person who was driving the car.
They were able to drive in and pick them up at their own front door , and that was huge.'
