A Leitrim Councillor is calling for a route to be selected for the Greenway between Kilclare to Ballinamore.
The issue came before the latest meeting of Leitrim County Council.
Councillor Enda McGloin believes a greenway taking in parts of Leitrim, Roscommon, and Cavan would attract tourism to the region.
The Fine Gael representative says the route could be extremely significant with regard to connections with neighbouring counties.
Speaking to Shannonside FM, he called on Transport Infrastructure Ireland to appoint a contractor to the process
'A lot of people would see it as a strategic greenway and one that many many people would come to visit from across the country.
It brings in so many different facets of our scenery of our areas, Cavan, Leitrim and even parts of Roscommon, Battlebridge would be included.
I think it's something very exciting but we need the support of TII and I'm hoping that's something Leitrim County Council will support in getting the key scoping done.'
