A call has been made to develop an initiative or memorial to remember a teenage girl and her infant son who died in Granard almost forty years ago.
15-year-old Ann Lovett and her son Patrick were found at the grotto in the north Longford town on the 31st of January 1984, hours after Ann had given birth to the child.
Her son died at the scene, and Ann passed away from what is believed to have been shock a few hours later in hospital.
Their deaths caused shockwaves throughout the country with much of the circumstances surrounding the case still shrouded in mystery.
Psychologist Niamh Ni Dhomhnaill has strong links to the Granard area and she suggested on Twitter over the weekend that something should be done to remember the young Longford woman.
Thinking of Ann Lovett and her little boy who died this day 37 years ago. I tried a few years ago to see if there was any interest locally in setting up a memorial for them but was met with silence. I can't lay flowers this year but I'll light a candle hopefully others might too.

She told the Joe Finnegan show that she understands the Lovett family is still grieving and any memorial should be developed in conjunction with them :
