There are calls for the consultation period on the N4 Mullingar to Longford upgrade to be extended past its proposed closure date of March 19th.
The upgrading of the 52 kilometre section of the N4 between the two towns has been proposed for the past 15 years and a preferred route had actually been chosen in 2010 before the project was cancelled due to the recession.
Longford Fine Gael Senator Michael Carrigy says up to 100 people were involved in a public meeting he hosted on the issue online last night, and many have concerns about the new routes options.
Fianna Fail Deputy Joe Flaherty is also looking for an extension to the consultation period stating that members of the public are struggling with low-quality maps on what will be the single biggest infrastructural project for the region.
