There are calls for urgent action to be taken to prevent a repeat of the heavy June bank holiday weekend traffic in Carrick-on-Shannon. There were extremely heavy tailbacks, especially on the Boyle Road, throughout the weekend, when the Carrick Carnival was on.
There is a plan for a bypass of the town, but that is unlikely to be completed until at least 2030. Fine Gael councillor Finola Armstrong McGuire says interim works are needed:
