Commissioner Drew Harris is to address a meeting of the county's JPC next week

The Garda Commissioner and Minister for Justice are being called on to deliver additional resources to a Garda station in Leitrim in order to provide a 24 -hour policing presence.

The March meeting of the Ballinamore Municipal District was told that three Gardai and a sergeant are currently based in Ballinamore - but there are occasions when officers are not available to answer queries or sign forms due to changing shift patterns.

Commissioner Drew Harris is to address a meeting of the county's Joint Policing Committee next week - and councillors this week agreed to write to the head of the force to raise their concerns over policing in rural areas ahead of the meeting.

Councilor Caillian Ellis says people in Dublin need to realise what is going on in rural Ireland and extra three of four Gardai would allow for a 24 hour service.
