Organisers have appealed for calm ahead of a planned protest against the housing of refugees in Castlerea on Sunday. Advanced talks are taking place between the Department of Integration and the owners of Riverwalk Apartments over plans to accommodate International Protection applicants. There have been a number of protests at the site this week following the news with a larger protest march planned for Sunday afternoon.
Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice, meanwhile, is calling on Minister Roderic O'Gorman and the International Protection Accommodation Service to meet with local public representatives. Organisers have urged those taking part to ensure protests remain peaceful while also calling for those living in Castlerea to come out in large numbers for Sunday's march.
