It’s time for Ireland to have a national conversation on homework.
The National Parents’ Council is making the call, after President Michael D. Higgins made his views on the homework debate public.
He thinks students should be able to focus on other creative activities after school.
CEO of the NPC, Áine Lynch thinks there are some merits to homework, but it depends what form it takes:
Particularly the more traditional kind of homework can cause severe distress.
But we've also heard from families that homework can be very beneficial as well.
I think that reflects that homework can be very different in different classes or schools.
I think we need to look at homework in more detail and see what homework is beneficial and what can be scrapped.
