There are calls for a clamp down on the illegal use of E-Scooters in the Shannonside Region. It follows Gardaí in Longford renewing their appeal for witnesses to a collision in the county last November involving an E-Scooter. A pedestrian was seriously injured in the incident and suffered a number of broken bones.
It's led to a public call for a stricter approach in the policing of legislation around the use of E-Scooters. The law currently states that they must only be operated by people over 16 years of age and must only hold one person at a time among other requirements. Longford Councillor Seamus Butler says he would be in favour of introducing by-laws locally to restrict their use:
