Longford County Council is to call on the housing minister to support the appointment of a dedicated dereliction officer for the county.
At a recent meeting of Longford County Council, councillor Uruemu Adejinmi put forward the motion for the council to create a role that would engage with the owners of derelict buildings or land, in order to get them back into use.
The call to the Minster for Housing and Local Government Darragh O'Brien received the support of both councillors and local authority officials.
Dereliction is currently handled by a number of departments within Longford County Council, with the new proposal set to centralise the process.
The local authority have confirmed they will now write to the Minister and request the posting.
