A Leitrim Councillor is calling for a commitment from the HSE over the NoWDoc service in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Brendan Barry says a review of the service is currently underway and he believes there should be no reduction in its opening times or operations.
Councillor Barry fears that Caredoc which organises the GP's for the Leitrim base may reduce its services in Carrick-on-Shannon forcing patients to travel to Sligo.
He believes if anything the out of hours GP service should be enhanced to ease pressure on hospitals
At a meeting of the local authority this week the Drumshanbo native asked for a letter to be sent to the provider and the HSE seeking a commitment.
The patients in all of North Leitrim and parts of South Donegal are expected to travel to Sligo.
I'd be very fearful that the services in Carrick on Shannon could be reduced under the CareDoc because they would have the one main centre in Sligo.
I suppose I'm calling that we get a commitment from the HSE that we get no reduction in the service in Carrick on Shannon.
