A walk-in service must be re-instated at Longford NDLS office according to a local Councillor.
Those who wish to renew their driver's licences must first book an appointment online however Paul Ross believes the requirement is a barrier for some older people.
He claims a number of motorists have been turned away from the Longford office in recent week's buts feels a normal service should now resume following the pandemic.
At a recent meeting of the local authority The Fine Gael representative called for the office to accept walk-ins at least one day a week.
''A lot of people, older people especially don't have access to the internet, it's a little bit of an ordeal to go online and often a family member has to be requested to help. And that's not always available to some older people. So what I was looking for in the the council motion was that one day a week would be set aside for people who hadn't booked an appointment. This could even be prioritised for people over 60 years of age, for example, so that they could just go in on a certain day and get their license there and then.''
