A Ballaghaderreen councillor has called for a multi-agency approach in order to tackle illegal dumping in the area. Cllr Micheál Frain says tougher enforcement is needed for what has become a major problem in the west Roscommon town. He accused the local authority of missing the point in response to a motion he raised at this month's meeting of Roscommon County Council.
Cllr Frain's motion urged the local authority use all avenues to address landlords and tenants who fail to dispose of rubbish correctly. In its response, the council highlighted the work of Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities in tackling the issue.
