Longford councillors have called for the establishment of a committee to approve any future public art installations in the town.
The call was made at this month's meeting of the Longford Municipal District following discussion of the removal and relocation of an art piece along the N5 in the town.
The installation is an abstract casting in stainless steel and is located on the footpath on the N5 and St Michael's road junction.
Councillors are calling for the piece to be relocated further up St. Michael's Road, with one councillor suggesting it should be melted down without delay.
Reacting to the discussion, county Cathoirleach Peggy Nolan called for the creation of a committee that can carefully select future public art installations.
