A Longford senator is suggesting pubs and clubs should begin to offer lids for drinks in order to prevent so called 'spiking.
Gardai have received more than 40 reports of drug spiking since the beginning of the year.
Officers are now appealing to any victims of spiking to get in touch and to report it.
Details in the Irish Examiner show 80 people have reported being spiked since an online hub was established to log instances.
Micheal Carrigy says Lids are provided for drinks in shops and cafes, so it can be done in pubs and clubs also.
