A local councillor has called for supports for small rural shops who wish to participate in the Deposit Return Scheme. Roscommon Cllr Tom Crosby has made the call following the scheme being launched at the start of February. The scheme incentivises people to return used drinks containers so that they can be successfully recycled into new containers.
If a bottle or can is returned successfully, a voucher will be issued which can be presented at the shop till in exchange for a cash refund or credit to use in store. The voucher can only be redeemed in the same store as where the return was carried out.
