An emergency response is needed to tackle “intolerable” antisocial behaviour incidents in Mohill.
That’s according to Councillor Thomas Mulligan who raised the issue at a meeting of Carrick on Shannon Municipal District this morning.
Leitrim County Council say they’re aware of a recent rise in anti-social behaviour within some local authority estates in Mohill.
The council insists this behaviour will not be tolerated and it’s using its powers under the housing Acts to have meetings with tenants to issue tenancy notices and warnings as required.
Councillor Mulligan says a multi-agency approach is needed to tackle the incidents in both the town and housing estates.
In recent weeks he claims there has been a spate of public order offences and incidents of vandalism with a number of windows broken in a housing estate.
The Fine Gael representative says locals are at their wits end and he’s particularly concerned for elderly residents.
Councillor Enda Stenson also brought a similar motion forward today, he called for a full time Garda to be stationed in Mohill to deal with the ongoing incidents.
Meanwhile Councillor Thomas Mulligan has called for a multi-agency public meeting to take place.
