Senator Eugene Murphy raised the issue in the Seanad this morning following what he described as a recent crime spree in the county.

A local senator says it's been a huge mistake to close Garda Stations by the River Shannon. Senator Eugene Murphy raised the issue in the Seanad this morning following what he described as a recent crime spree in the county.

The Fianna Fáil Senator called on the Justice Minister to provide extra Garda resources for Co. Roscommon:

Meanwhile, a local councillor is seeking a meeting with Garda management over concerns about rising crime in Roscommon. It comes as a number of meetings take place across the region to discuss the recent increase in rural crime. Independent Councillor Anthony Waldron says there is growing anger in County Roscommon following a spate of burglaries in the area.

He said a petition is being signed by residents and business owners and will be presented to An Garda Síochána in due course. Speaking to Shannonside News, he said it was time something was done to put people's minds at ease:
