A local senator says it's been a huge mistake to close Garda Stations by the River Shannon. Senator Eugene Murphy raised the issue in the Seanad this morning following what he described as a recent crime spree in the county.

Meanwhile, a local councillor is seeking a meeting with Garda management over concerns about rising crime in Roscommon. It comes as a number of meetings take place across the region to discuss the recent increase in rural crime. Independent Councillor Anthony Waldron says there is growing anger in County Roscommon following a spate of burglaries in the area.
