Longford and the surrounding counties need to take advantage of the newly announced strategic review of the island's rail system.
That's according to local rail users who are calling for improvements to the current rail transport system.
A review has been launched by the Transport Minister, with a view to potentially expanding the network and its services.
One of the suggestions put forward is more high-speed lines which would connect cities across the island of Ireland.
It will also look at how the network would enhance accessibility and support balanced regional development.
