A campaign is being launched today to fundraise for a GAA facility to be named in honour of Detective Garda Colm Horkan.
The 49-year-old was shot dead in Castlerea in June and a man is currently before the courts charged with his capital murder.
The Colm Horkan memorial pitch is being developed by the Mayo native's home GAA club in Charlestown.
The club hopes to install a new floodlit pitch and a walkway for the entire community.
The campaign is being launched this weekend to tie in with what would have been the Garda's 50th birthday.
