A Longford based principal is doubtful all schools in the Shannonside region will have capacity for Ukrainian children this September.
Orla Finnegan says a regional educational and language team has been set up to assist the process and the Department of Education have been approaching schools to intake additional students.
At the beginning of this month over 5,000 Ukrainians were enrolled in primary schools across the country.
The St. Felim's principal believes provisions must be in place to assist both the children and the schools.
"There are a lot of children from Ukraine coming to schools. If you have capacity, certainly there is no difficulty there, but I'm not so sure in the Shannonside area, would all schools have capacity at this stage and what provisions the Department is going to be making if the local school doesn't have capacity, because it will mean busing children to a school that has space to take them in.."
