The Criminal Assets Bureau has conducted a number of searches across County Longford today resulting in the seizure of a car and documents.
CAB officers, as well as Gardai from the Emergency Response Unit and the Revenue Customs Dog Unit were involved in a total of six searches at five homes and one business premises.
This CAB investigation is focused on an Organised Criminal Group (OCG) based in county Longford who is suspected to be involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs, intimidation, unlicensed money lending and the extortion of monies.
Following a co-ordinated search operation, a 201 VW Passat, as well as financial documents & electronic media and documentation in relation to ownership of assets, were seized.
Financial accounts with monies in excess of €37,000 were also restrained by way of Orders under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.
Eight dogs have also been taken into care by the local Dog Warden. Today's search operation is connected to a major CAB search operation that took place in the county in July of last year.
