Car sales have continued to drop across the Shannonside region according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry. New figures from the first two months of the year show a significant drop in new vehicle registrations in the region. Longford has seen the biggest drop in car sales in January and February compared to the same period last year.
New registrations are down 15 percent in the county with 228 cars bought in the first two months of the year. That's followed by a 5 percent drop in Roscommon, where new car sales fell from 481 in January and February last year to 454 so far this year. Leitrim was one of the few counties nationwide to see an increase in sales, with a minor jump of just 2 percent. Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General says that the fall off in EV purchases seems to be slowing.
