A Leitrim man has revealed a relative of his was quoted over 51,000 euro to rent a car in Ireland.
John McCartin told the Joe Finnegan Show his brother-in-law had hoped to hire the nine-seater vehicle for nine days but it was simply too expensive.
Following an online search, the same car was available to buy for almost eight thousand euro cheaper.
The former Councillor says it's a real turn-off for tourists who wish to return home this summer.
John says it would be cheaper to rent a helicopter for the short stay.
"Following further research just for the hell of it, I googled and discovered that he could almost get a helicopter for half the price, so I was figuring if he was going to do 200KM a day, to rent a helicopter for that trip, would be around €3,500 a day which was a far cry from the, I think, €5700 a day he is being quoted for his car."
Brother-in-law quoted over €51,000 for 9 days car rental for his family holiday to Ireland this summer. Presuming he’ll do €150km per day, a helicopter would be a lot cheaper. #RipOffIreland #PriceGouging pic.twitter.com/bzx26M9R4n
