Longford County Council is currently in the process of procuring card compatible parking meters for the town.
Councillors, businesses and members of the public have made the call for the local authority to facilitate paid parking by card. The current coin only system has been criticised by many, with local councillors claiming it is hurting local businesses. Local Councillor Seamus Butler confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound this week, that Longford County Council are currently in a joint procurement process for the machines. According to Councillor Butler, people are avoiding shopping in the town as they don't carry change and won't risk a parking ticket.
