A deal has been reached to secure cardiology diagnostic services at Sligo University Hospital according to a local Minister.
In a statement to Shannonside FM News this evening, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Sligo Leitrim TD Frank Feighan said the agreement was reached following intense negotiations with all stakeholders.
According to the Minister, the deal will cover an investment and expansion of the cardiac services available at Sligo University Hospital.
The facility's Cath Lab was shut earlier this month after the private operator behind the service pulled out of its contract.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelley confirmed earlier this month that he would engage with local reps over the closure.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news this evening, Minister Feighan says today's decision is great news for patients:
''I'm delighted that we have an agreement now regarding the expansion of existing cardiology services in Sligo and also an investment in new cardiology, which includes a diagnostic service. It's the best news for patients in Sligo, and indeed the West and Northwest but also secures the expansion of the cardiology team at the University Hospital. And I want to thank the Minister, and indeed all the stakeholders for all the great work that they've done.''
