The President of Carrick-on-Shannon chamber says there's absolutely no reason to be fearful to come into town during the weekend.
Colm McGrath was responding to concerns that hen and stag parties increase the risk of anti-social behaviour and put the reputation of the town in jeopardy.
However, the Leitrim businessman says pre-pandemic the night-time economy accounted for 800 jobs with almost 28 million euro going back into the local economy as a result of this tourism.
While he disagrees with the introduction of bye-laws on the outdoor consumption of alcohol, he believes there are numerous initiatives in place to manage the town over any given weekend.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show Colm says he's unaware of any businesses having to close early due to hen and stag parties:
"The retail is open until 6pm on a Saturday, I don't know anyone who closes earlier than that.
We created the carrick charter so pubs, you are not supposed to take a drink outside the pub if you are going from one bar to another bar.
We have put a lot of measures in place, we took on board what people had to say, we have the carrick ambassadors which go out Friday and Saturday night, 10pm until 5 am."
