The Chamber of Commerce in Carrick-on-Shannon says it hopes to be able to persuade the local council to change the days and times of the pedestrianisation of part of the main street in the town.
The council undertook an online public survey for a two week period last month, and says it got strong demand from the public for a pilot scheme.
The local authority has published a statutory notice this week stating that it intends to close part of main street to traffic for each weekend over the next five months.
CEO of Carrick Chamber Paul O' Brien says they welcome the pedestrian aspect, but they would like to see the streets closed each evening from 6 o' clock and they'd be happy to be help the council with this work.
He says they'd also like to see the street remain open for traffic on Saturdays.
