The plan to pedestrianise the main thoroughfare in Carrick-On-Shannon was not attempted at the right time according to a local Councillor.
Leitrim County Council had originally hoped to pilot pedestrian-only access from Friday nights until Monday mornings, from July all the way to the end of September.
However, following disappointing results and backlash from the public and some local businesses, the plan was reduced to a four-week trial.
The issue was discussed at this month's meeting of the Carrick On Shannon Municipal District, where Councillor Finola Armstrong Maguire stated people in Carrick do want the project.
Speaking after the meeting, she feels heavy streetscape works in the town and Covid regulations were a significant disadvantage for the trial and any realisation of positive effects.
