Plans for the extension of the Carrick-on-Shannon CCTV scheme have been given the green light.
The proposal for 25 new cameras at 12 locations was formally endorsed at a meeting of the Leitrim Joint Policing Committee this morning.
Two cameras will be placed at St. Georges Terrace while provisions have been made for a further three cameras along the new boardwalk.
Following consultations with Gardai and local residents a number of cameras will be located at the riverside near the rowing club and the public toilets.
Five cameras will also be placed at the newly developed Flynn's Field Car Park, all of which will be inwards facing.
While a further camera will be located at Tearmann Park in Cortober.
An authorisation application will now be submitted to An Garda Siochanna for approval.
