A special march will take place in Carrick-on-Shannon next week to mark Fairtrade Fortnight.
The parade will show support for the farmers and workers who grow food in developing countries.
A steering group was set up in Carrick-on-Shannon to encourage locals to purchase Fairtrade products which in turn provides farmers with a better opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future.
Sr. Nora Burke says local schools have also been taking part in the campaign and they will march through the town on Tuesday, March 7th at 11am.
The parade assembles at Kelly's Shop and will proceed through the town to the Market Yard.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier Sr. Nora explained the importance of purchasing Fairtrade items.
'The fortnight is raising awareness and it is making a renewed commitment to buying some Fairtrade produces we are not saying go in and fill your whole trolley with Fairtrade produces because you won't be able to.
Buy one every so often and then you are helping some child who might be working on a farm without Fairtrade to go to school and be educated.'
