Carrick-on-Shannon has been recognised as one of the cleanest towns in the country.
The Irish Business Against Litter survey found the Leitrim town to be cleaner than European norms. Indeed, Carrick-on-Shannon is the ninth cleanest town in the country.
The An Taisce report for Carrick-on-Shannon gave the town top marks for over half of the sites surveyed, with no heavily littered spots identified.
Inspectors praised improvements at previously notified sites such as the R280 approach road, Summerhill Court and the Leitrim Leisure centre.
The news wasn't as good for Longford, which came 27th in the list and received a rating of moderately littered. Judges highlighted how one serious littered site in the town pushed Longford down the rankings.
Roscommon followed Longford in the rankings at 31st, with a number of heavily littered sites mentioned.
Nationally, Maynooth is the cleanest town in the country; followed by Mallow and Sligo, in the latest Irish Business Against Litter survey.
