There will be no shortage of tourist accommodation in Carrick On Shannon for the upcoming tourist season.
That's according to the President of the town's Chamber of Commerce, Colm McGrath, despite the ongoing crisis in the provision of refugee housing.
Hotel's across the country have been hired by the Department of Integration for the housing of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.
According to the Carrick businessman, a small number of providers in and around the town signed up to house incoming refugees, while those that did only allocating a portion of the supply.
He made the comments following the awarding of a Purple Flag to the town for 2023, a designation that acknowledges the standard of excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy.
Speaking to the Let's Talk Show, Colm says Carrick is ready to welcome a major increase in visitors once the tourist season begins.
"A number of the hoteliers didn't get involved with the offer from the government ot take in Ukrainian refugees and the ones that did only apportioned maybe 30% of the room allocation so they're still open for business to the public. We also have a lot of private accommodation providers that have plenty of room. At the end of the day they're looking at the tourist season and looking forward to it and have capacity there to maintain it".
