Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show today, local Councillor Finola Armstrong Maguire says the entire community in the town are shocked at the news.

Deirdre Finn was an off-duty member of An Garda Siochána and was attached to Dun Laoghaire Station in Dublin.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Carrick on Shannon this morning.

The development will consist of the erection of 4 32 metre high lighting columns.

The Carrick Chamber President says a recent report on behalf of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation showed such a move will cost up 24,000 jobs across the country.
