The President of Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce says he hopes the new pedestrianistation plans for the town will help local restaurants and pubs.
Colm McGrath was reacting to the news that plans to pedestrianise a significant section of the main street at weekends are to go ahead from this Friday.
The decision to close off the street from the junction with Church Lane/St Mary's Close up to the town clock has been met with various concerns since it was first mooted in recent months but the council says it will now go ahead as a pilot scheme until the end of September.
Colm McGrath from Carrick Chamber says he feels it will bring more business to local traders, and he hopes badly hit restaurants and pubs could benefit in particular.
