Letters will be dropped to homes in the Carrick-on-Shannon areas at the end of this month as part of the public consultation on the local Flood Relief Scheme.
Consultants are presently working on the scheme but Leitrim council Director of Services Shay O'Connor says they want to get the public opinions early on in the process.
The letter drop is being made instead of asking people to come to a central location and views maps as is the usual process, but Shay O' Connor says they hope that people will take the trouble to respond and fill in a questionnaire.
He says some people may think that decision have already been taken on how the relief scheme will work and how it will look, but that isn't the case at all.
