A Longford based Senator had joined calls on the Government to bind the Autism Innovation Strategy in law.
The strategy is aimed at providing equality of access to public services and an inclusive society for autistic people.
Legislating it would mean the State would be legally bound to the 83 pledges contained in the strategy, which was unveiled on Monday.
The call to enshrine it in legislation comes from the autism charity As I Am, who's CEO is the Taoiseach's brother, Adam Harris.
Senator Michael Carrigy, who chairs the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism, is supporting As I Am's demand.
