Carrigy teases possible Seanad run for a Longford Fine Gael councillor

Deputy Carrigy won the final seat in the Longford Westmeath Constituency over the weekend, leaving his Seanad post vacant.

Longford's new TD has confirmed he'll fully support whomever Fine Gael pick to contest a Seanad seat locally, with several councillors said to be in the running. The former Longford Councillor was elected to the Seanad in 2020 after narrowly missing out on a seat in the General Election of the same year. Deputy Carrigy won the final seat in the Longford Westmeath Constituency over the weekend, leaving his Seanad post vacant.

Nominations for the Seanad elections close at the end of the year, with polling day due at the end of January. While Deputy Carrigy would not confirm if the party had picked a candidate, he told Let's Talk that there are a number of local Fine Gael Councillors interested in running:
