The merger of Castlerea and Athlone Credit Unions is taking place later today.
The west Roscommon branch will close at 1pm today while the Westmeath Credit Union will close at 5pm.
The closures will facilitate the transfer of engagement and alignment of the computer systems.
Castlerea Credit Union will re-open on Tuesday while Athlone Irishtown operations will resume on Monday and in Monksland on Wednesday February 22nd.
CEO of Athlone Credit Union Michael Evans has been explaining the process over the next few days.
''The members voted comprehensively to come together in a merger, so at 1o'clcock today in Castlerea we'll close the door and we'll arrange the transfer of data into a compatible form and then we'll install a new cash machine and various other services. There's very little down time for members' services. It's probably more of an advantage to Castlerea members because we have services in Athlone because of the scale, and we are now able to bring those services to members in Castlerea.''
