A Castlerea Councillor has described the removal and vandalism of life buoys at the demesne as disappointing.
Paschal Fitzmaurice says three life rings were taken from along the Francis River and either damaged or thrown into the water.
The Fianna Fail representative has condemned the act, stating lifebuoys are there to save lives and anyone who removes or interferes with one is potentially risking someone's life.
He hopes CCTV may assist in finding out those responsible.
"We know that all of these rivers, at some stage, somebody accidentally may fall in and of course if there's a life bouy there that somebody can use to save somebody, it's a very valuable item and it's terrible that somebody would think it was a funny joke to steal one or throw one in the river or vandalise it. I think it's something that needs to be followed up and hopefully there's CCTV there in the domain that can be traced. Certainly the full rigours of the law should come down on anyone who vandalises or touches any life buoy".
