Castlerea GP Dr Madeleine Ni Dhalaigh says women who are pregnant are very in tune with their bodies and should contact their GP if they

Castlerea GP Dr Madeleine Ni Dhalaigh says women who are pregnant are very in tune with their bodies and should contact their GP if they have any cause for concern.

Dr Ni Dhalaigh says it's important to note that the reports about the stillbirths have yet to be fully investigated and developed.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning Dr Ni Dhalaigh says a doctor will always want to hear from their patient on any issues to do with lack of movement of babies during pregnancy, and women should be reassured there are safety measures in place.

Cases of stillbirths among women who contracted Covid-19 may need to be re-examined.

It's emerged that four stillbirths that occurred this year may have been as a result of an infection in the placenta linked to the virus.

Health officials are advising the findings are preliminary, as the stillbirths have not yet been examined at an inquest.

Head of the HSE's Women and Infant's health programme, Professor Peter McKenna says previous cases of stillbirths may be revisited.
