The man accused of the murder of a Detective Garda remained silent for much of his final interview with Gardai .
The jury in the trial of Stephen Silver, of Foxford, mayo, watched the fifth and last interview conducted with the mayo man in the days following the shooting of Colm Horkan at the Central Criminal court this morning.
Video recordings of the five interviews had been played over the last number of days in the trial at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin coming to a total of 15 hours.
In the final interview, Detective Sergeant Brian Hanly told Mr Silver that while Detective Horkan was on the ground that 'you could have walked away Stephen, but you didn't.'
He asked the accused if he was angry at the Gardaí, mentioning the video shown to Silver by a local bus driver of a previous Garda interaction with James Coyne, before asking him 'is that why you shot and killed Colm Horkan?'
The 46 year old bike mechanic remained silent throughout the questioning, with Gardaí stating that apart from Colm Horkan putting his hand on him, Mr Silver was responsible for 'all other acts of aggression' in the incident.
Detective Sergeant Hanly asked Stephen Silver 'why are we having a state funeral for Colm Horkan? He should be at home with his family' before continuing and stating that Colm Horkan was dead because of your actions, not his own and not because he was wearing a Tommy Hilfiger jacket.
The jury heard evidence from a number of Garda technical and forensic witnesses regarding evidence from the scene
