The Chairman of Roscommon County Council says he's somewhat surprised to hear of the impending resignation of his colleague Ivan Connaughton from the authority.
Councillor Laurence Fallon says he and Councillor Connaughton have worked on a number of issues in the Athleague area and he's always found him to be diligent and committed. The auctioneer has indicated the main reason behind his decision to retire from the council in the coming months is his frustration at the workings of local government.
Laurence Fallon says he's very sorry to see anyone leave the local authority, but adds it's very much up to the individual to make a decision on whether they want to continue working in the role
