Carrick on Shannon has been named today as Ireland's Best Kept Town.
The all-island competition takes in some of the best performers in the annual Tidy Towns Competition and they compete against their counterparts in Northern Ireland's Best Kept competition.
A total of 882 towns were looked at for the competition and just 16 were announced as winners at a special ceremony in Farmleigh House today.
The Leitrim county town took the overall prize in the competition, as well as the title of Best Kept Small Town.
Local Councillor Finola Armstrong Maguire was one of the delegation from Carrick Tidy Towns who travelled to Dublin for the awards today.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier she paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of people who volunteer with Tidy Towns locally…
'So huge congratulations to go down the line home to Carrick on Shannon this evening to everyone who has done everything in their power to bring Carrick to what it is today.
We're just thrilled, delighted and it's great recognition for a lot of work that was done on a voluntary basis and there are cash prizes within it so the money will be used to develop it further.
There have been people, and I couldn't name anybody because it wouldn't be fair, but there have been people with Tidy Towns for decades and there have been new recruits in the last few months and for all of that we are so grateful.'
