The Chairperson of Granard Traders Association says ATM machines are still needed in towns despite the huge transition to cashless transactions during Covid.
Paschal Masterson was reacting to news today that the local Credit Union in the town is set install an ATM to replace the service due to be lost with the closure of the local branch of Bank of Ireland early next month.
While details of the transaction available on the Credit Union aren't yet known, Mr Masterson says people were shocked to hear that Bank of Ireland were to take their ATM out and are glad to hear of the Credit Union stepping in.
The Traders chairman says the facilities that are to be in place in the local Post Office for lodgements will also be a help to local businesses.
