The Chair of the Longford Community Safety Partnership says a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to try to improve people's lives in the town and surrounding areas.
Martina Maloney was speaking in the wake of another violent incident in Longford town this week when shots were fired at a local housing estate.
No one was injured in the incident and investigations are ongoing.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon , the Chair of the Community Partnership says while the incident is obviously distressing for people in the area, there is committed work going on to improve things,.
She says a number of initiatives are being planned with the involvement of various statutory and community groups and local people have a strong voice at the table.
"Certainly I can understand people's concern if shots are fired in their community and I don't think any of us would like to be exposed to that type of situation. Our role is to support the Gardai in the work that they do and collaborate with them and we also have a very strong representation from the community that sit on the panel from Longford Public Participation Network, from the Age Friendly Alliance, from the sports partnership, from Longford Community Resources. So we have a good voice of the community around the table".
