A new swimming pool planned for Drumlish will benefit communities across Longford, Leitrim and Cavan.
That's the view of the chair of the local GAA club following the submission of planning permission for the major development.
The application has been lodged by Fr Manning Gaels GAA Club and would see the construction of a multi-purpose building to house the pool, changing rooms and a general purpose room at their North Longford ground.
The development would see a full size pool, sauna, steam room and ice bath facilities, along with an extension to the existing clubhouse.
Also included in the plans for Monaduff Park is the construction of an astro turf pitch, hand ball alley and new walkway.
Speaking to Shannonside News, Club Chair Mike Mulleady believes that once the pool is open, the village will benefit from new visitors :
"When we get the pool up and running and a lifeguard there, we'll be opening membership. That can bring in other areas like north Longford, into Leitrim, and parts of Cavan. We'll definitely be open to all that. As I say, there's not to many places that will have a pool on their grounds so it's going to be an enhancement to the area plus we're going to have rooms like steam rooms, sauna rooms, ice baths, and all that. I think for treatment in any way at all, we'll have it. We're delighted".
