The chairperson of Mayo Roscommon Hospice has paid tribute to all those who've assisted in the fruition of the new unit in the county town.
On Monday last, the 6.3 million euro facility became fully accessible to patients.
The eight bed centre is located on a site purchased by the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and is under the governance and full operational management of Roscommon University Hospital.
Mike Smith says over the last 30 years communities, volunteer groups and past board members have put in huge efforts to bring about the new unit.
"They've been hugely significant in putting the hospice here today over the last 30 years, in terms of fundraising, in terms of our shops and just our commun8ites in general throughout the whole county. It's very important to mention our past board members and chairpersons. They were very significant in making sure there was a hospice in Roscommon and throughout the country I think we're the only ones that have provided two hospices".
