The lives of 145 children are in danger because of a crisis in the paediatric diabetes service in Mullingar Hospital, according to a patient's mother.
It's after the head of the service wrote to patients over serious staff shortages. The service has been cut back and is operating without any nursing support. The HSE says it has been taking steps to ensure the continuity of the diabetes service and recognises its importance. It is used by 145 children, including 11-year-old Rhian Clarke - his mother, Janice Reel, says it can't operate properly without nursing support.
