A local Hospice support group will host its annual Christmas fundraising event in Roscommon this weekend.
The turning of the Knockcroghery 'Shine a Light for Hospice' tree will take place tomorrow from 5 o'clock on the village green.
The event, which raises money for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, will commence with carol singing before the tree is turned on at 6pm.
Santa Claus will pay his annual visit to the south Roscommon village at 6.30, where he will meet local children in Murray's Pub.
The event has so far raised over €100,000 for local Hospice services in the county through the sponsorship of cards placed on the tree.
Speaking to Shannonside News, organiser Patricia Beirne says the fundraiser is a real community effort.
